Dr. Howard Hamat, a Top Gastroenterologist and Colonoscopy Provider, completed his fellowship in Gastroenterology at the prestigious University of Toronto in 1995. He stayed in Toronto for an additional year to do advanced training in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Therapeutic Biliary Endoscopy. Upon completion of his training, Dr. Hamat moved with his family to Houston to join Digestive and Liver Disease Consultants, P.A. where he has practiced since 1997.
Dr. Howard Hamat specializes in treating patients with diseases of the liver, bile duct, pancreas, and gallbladder as well as diseases of the esophagus, stomach, and intestine. He also has a special interest in taking care of patients with all types of inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. He is a previous Vice Chair of the Medical Advisory Board of The Gulf Coast Chapter of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. Dr. Hamat is an expert in performing endoscopy, colonoscopy, and ERCP, having performed well over 20,000 procedures during his career. He has chaired endoscopy committees at several hospitals and is a past Chief of Staff at Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital.
Dr. Howard Hamat is board-certified in gastroenterology and has successfully completed the required board certification examination every ten years, with his most recent score being among the highest in the nation. When he is not taking care of his patients, Dr. Howard enjoys fishing, swimming, healthy eating, and spending time with his family. I have been going to this practice for many years. Not only do I love Dr. Hamat, all of his nurses represent the same great level of care that he does! I have to give a special shout out to Neico, the lab technician that takes your blood and other labs that are ordered. First, she always gets my vein on the first try! For whatever reason, others have usually take 3 or 4 times. But the most important thing about Nieco is she genuinely cares about her patients. When I leave her office, I always feel better due to her genuine act of kindness. This kind of treatment is so rare in today's world. So thank you Nieco, Dr. Hamat and all of the nurses that assist him. Keep up the great level of care. It is very much appreciated!
Dr. Hamat is my physician, and he is very patient and explains everything thoroughly. He does not leave until he answers all your questions. His staff are just as amazing! Patient, kind, and working hard to assist in every manner. I'm lucky to find this location for my needs.
I always feel welcomed at my appointment, like the staff actually cares about me as a patient & person. Dr. Hamit is wonderful , great bedside manner , he actually looks at you when he’s talking to you. A lot of doctors don’t look at you whatsoever while they’re talking they just keep focused on their computers. Than you!
